John 19:28-42

Leading up to Sunday's Sermon

Read the Passage

John 19:28-42

Reflect

  1. Why do you think the details surrounding Jesus’ death are so specific? How are they important?
  2. Who’s in charge of this situation? How do you know, from this passage?

Respond

Suggested Prayer Prompts
  • Adore God for His power and rule over everything.
  • Confess of when you have tried to prove your own worthiness of saving yourself.
  • Thank God for His sacrifice on the cross.
  • Ask God to prepare your heart to hear and receive the message in God’s Word this Sunday. Pray for the preacher as he prepares and gives the sermon.

After Sunday's Sermon

Review

Review John 19:28-42 and listen to sermon (if you have not done so already)

Reflect

Key Idea
How do we follow God when He is no longer here?

We follow God by trusting that He is in charge, even over His own death; by believing in His real death, burial, and resurrection; and by telling this to others.
Questions for Consideration
  1. Over what area of your life do you have a hard time trusting God to be in charge of?
  2. What are some practical steps to grow in trusting God to rule you in a specific area in your life?

Respond

Suggested Prayer Prompts
  • Adore God for His sacrificial life as the risen lamb that was slain, ruler over all.
  • Confess when you have shied away from being a faithful witness to Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection in your own life or in other’s lives.
  • Thank God for empowering us with His Spirit to follow and trust Him by proclaiming His death, burial, and resurrection as our constant hope.
  • Ask for strength to tell His gospel truth to yourself and others.
