February 19, 2023
"Jesus before Pilate: What is Truth?"
John 18:28-48

Leading up to Sunday's Sermon

Read the Passage

John 18:28-40

Reflect

  1. As the Jews bring Jesus to Pilate, what excuses do they give in order to get Pilate to judge and crucify Him?
  2. Why do you think Pilate is so interested in figuring out if Jesus is a king?
  3. Do the answers that Jesus gives Pilate seem to answer his question? What does it seem like Jesus is emphasizing in His response?

Respond

Suggested Prayer Prompts
  • Thank God for graciously sacrificing His Son.
  • Pray that Jesus would convict those who spread injustice and comfort those who experience it.
  • Pray that God would bring more people into His kingdom through the preaching of His Word on Sunday.

After Sunday's Sermon

Review

Review John 18:28-40 and listen to sermon (if you have not done so already)

Reflect

Key Idea
Instead of avoiding the truth, know Jesus who is the truth and tell others about Him.
Questions for Consideration
  1. In light of how both the Jews and Pilate interact over Jesus, how might you also be tempted to avoid the truth He brings?
  2. How does the truth of the gospel speak to your temptation to avoid truth?
  3. Have you submitted to Christ and His kingdom? How could your life reflect that reality more this week?

Respond

Suggested Prayer Prompts
  • Confess to God the areas you see temptation and sin at work in your life.
  • Thank Him for the ways He meets us in our weakness.
  • Pray that you would experience His kingdom in increasing measure this week.
