Leading up to Sunday's Sermon

Read the Passage

John 19:1-17

Reflect

  1. What did Pilate hope to accomplish by flogging and mocking Jesus? Do you think Pilate succeeded in avoiding responsibility for crucifying Jesus?
  2. What was Pilate initially concerned about? How did this change when he spoke to the Jewish leaders?
  3. Why didn’t Jesus respond to Pilate’s first question? Why did he respond to the second question?

Respond

Suggested Prayer Prompts
  • Rejoice in Jesus, who willingly submitted Himself to torture, shame, and judgment for His people!
  • Pray that the church would be steadfastly faithful to Christ despite persecution and temptation.
  • Pray for the preaching of the gospel this Sunday, and pray that our community would come to know Christ.
